Why Call Havard Immediately If You’ve Seen Swarming Termites

May 24, 2019

There are many signs in life to warn us about upcoming events. For instance, have you ever heard the saying, “Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky at morning, sailors take warning.”? Little sayings like this are said all across the world because of cause-and-effect events. One phrase we are hoping will catch on is this: “When termites start swarming, they are your best warning." If this saying confuses you, let us explain what we mean.

What Are Termite Swarmers?

Have you ever heard of termites? If you have, you probably know that they are small insects that feed on wood to survive. What you may not know is that once a year, fully mature colonies of termites produce winged termites, otherwise known as termite swarmers. These swarmers have one mission in life, and that is to establish new termite colonies in new locations. This means if your neighbor or your neighbor’s neighbor has termite troubles, or you have a fully mature colony somewhere on your property, your home could be at risk.

What Do Termite Swarmers Indicate?

If you see termite swarmers, it could mean one of two things. Either it means you already have a termite infestation in your home, or there is a fully mature colony somewhere nearby. How you can make an educated guess as to which one of these is true depends on where you find the swarmers. If you find termite swarmers outside of your home, maybe on window sills or crawling on your foundation, it is certain that there is a mature colony somewhere nearby. However, if you are seeing swarmers inside your home, and you know they aren’t just flying in through an open window or door, it is extremely likely that your home is already under attack.
